Autumn brings forth a plethora of unique festivals, activities, and treats. It's a chance to engage with a community, familiar or new. While certain days call for time indoors, huddled under comfy blankets alone with a seasonal drink, part of the joy of the season comes from celebrating it together! Here are some fun, group activity ideas to help you celebrate Fall.
Apple orchards, pumpkin patches, family farms... Oh my!
I grew up going to a pumpkin farm every autumn. Some of my favorite memories were made there! They offered unique mazes, hay-rides, delicious treats, and showcased lots of their own livestock. Their barn had been renovated to include a two-story slide that landed in a huge haystack. Best part? It was next to free.
Now that I'm in a new area, there are still plenty of farms to go to! I know that they will give me a chance to enjoy new experiences and help to create a memorable fall. Even if you're not a fan of the outdoors, don't knock it till you try it! Some orchards or festivals offer plenty of indoor activities too.
Local Fall Festivals
It never ceases to amaze me how many businesses in my neighborhood I've completely missed! Festivals give me a chance to find new local vendors and get to know existing businesses. Many times these shops offer seasonal, day-only goods you may not get to try anywhere else! If you're a fan of local history, some of these festivals happen in or around old historical monuments and structures.
Our Covered Bridge Festival (as in the name haha) leads participants along scenic roads through existing covered bridges! Some of the towns we pass have historic museums. The festival itself happens in the remnants of an old town stead with an operable flour mill. So cool!
Workshops
Our public library and local businesses love to offer workshops catered to the season. Whether it's creating leafy-pattered ceramics, cozy coasters in shades of burnt sienna and mustard yellow, or just a s'mores making party, these get-togethers always turn out to be a good time. Bonus: these can be done at home DIY style.
